Owing to our physiological limitations, human beings cannot fly. We are unable to carry great loads and we can’t run through walls or kick cars over. If we tried, our muscles would tear and our bones would break. Most of us will never be great athletes or adventurers, or travel to space, or save the day. And we’ll never truly know what it was like to live as a wayward peasant boy in medieval Utrecht. But we can taste what these things might be like through the miracle of gaming — and I’ve always thought that was cool. Through gaming, or “videogamery”, we are granted an experience of existence beyond living matter. Beyond that which is real. The opportunity to lead another life, out there, in wonderful gamesland. A virtual world, far away from all our real-life struggles and insecurities.
So join me as I explore what games have to offer in the year 2026. There’ll be tears and laughter and top-tier fraggery. Take my hand and together we’ll enter,
